A group of citizens has formed to monitor checkout performance at the Hy-Vee supermarket on Fleur Drive in Des Moines, according to an axios.com report.
Group organizer Joe Henry said he received hundreds of responses when he posted a note on social media that he witnessed only one cashier and several self-checkout kiosks at the supermarket. Henry then asked to meet with the company management and invited other people to join him.
Store management met with the group and agreed to ensure cashiers will be available.
Henry has since asked neighbors to assist him in monitoring local stores.
A Hy-Vee spokesperson told Axios the company employs cashiers and the number of open checkout lanes can depend on schedules and the need for assistance.
